Serve up some G8 and G20 advice!
Gather round a table with friends, family, neighbours and others in your community to tell our world leaders what you want them to do at the G8 and G20 Summits in June.
At the Table dinners and events are a chance for people everywhere to get together and raise awareness about the summits and lend their voice to the campaign. The June G8 and G20 summits are a huge opportunity for people everywhere, and especially Canadians, to create pressure on our leaders to be the leaders they were elected to be and keep their promises to the world’s poorest people.
Check out these recipes for action:
Some time to spare?
Already planning a dinner party or other event, or know someone who is? You can add your voice to At the Table by setting aside some time to talk about the incredible opportunity we have to ensure good results at the G8 and G20 summits.More time to spare?
Organize your own gathering around any manner of table - lunch table, meeting table, bar table, or picnic table - even your living room coffee table!
Decide what type of event you want to hold. A lunch/brunch/dinner, BBQ/picnic/beach party, coffee klatch or brew session.
Invite your friends, family, neighbours and others in the community. You can also let local media know of your plans.
If you can, invite your local politicians to your event. You can also invite your country leader. If she/he won’t attend, bring her/him along by downloading a Flat Leader.
Gather materials for your event. Speech bubbles, flat leaders, issue backgrounders, placemats and more are at your disposal!
Talk about the issues and use the speech bubbles to tell world leaders what issues you want to see action on at the G8 and G20 meetings.
Take pictures of your guests with a flat leader and your speech bubble - get a group photo for good measure. Send us an email and attach the pictures to take part in our photo petition. You’ll be a part of this global movement for change in 2010!
Don’t forget to ask your guests to sign the At the Table declaration online or by downloading a form. Have each of your guests take extra copies of the declaration form home with them, and challenge them to get more signatures for the campaign. Consider posting the declaration form in workplaces, community centres, churches, etc.
