In 2010 the eyes of the world will be focused on Canada as the host of the G8 and G20 summits. Decisions made at these and other global summits in 2010 will be critical to the future of life on our planet.

Civil society organizations in Canada and around the world have come together to clearly state that what we want in 2010 is bold action on three global challenges—combating poverty and inequality, making real progress on climate change, and transforming global economic and financial systems for a fair and sustainable world.

Achieving these goals requires more democratic, transparent and accountable global decision-making that is inclusive of the world’s developing countries. As a first step the African Union, which represents 52 African States, should be part of the G20 in 2010. We also need a consistent and comprehensive accountability framework for both the G8 and G20.

We can combat poverty and inequality, make real progress on global warming and build a more just global economy. We need bold, forward-looking leadership to make it happen.
